CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

is an art that deals with the identity and location of the offender and prove his guilt in a criminal proceeding. It is the systematic method of inquiry that is more a science than an art. The logic of scientific method must, however, be supplemented by the investigator's initiative and resourcefulness. The sequences of the investigation should be regarded by scientific, operating framework that requires improvising on the part of the investigator. 

3 I’S IN INVESTIGATION

1. INFORMATION 

Information is a communicated knowledge by others obtaining by personal study, investigation, research, analysis, observation. The use of modern gadgets in intelligence and other things and material that possess or contain a desire information or knowledge 

2. INTERROGATION/ INTERVIEW 

Interrogation is the questioning of a person suspected of having committed an offense or of a person who is reluctant to make a full disclosure of information in his possession which is pertinent to the investigation. 

Interviews are used in an investigation to gather information — objective facts — by asking open-ended questions and allowing the witness to supply the evidence 

3. INSTRUMENTATION 

Instrumentation refers to the tools or means by which investigators attempt to measure variables or items of interest in the data-collection process.
